QUALIFICATIONS:

 

1.         Completed at least 2 years of study (48 semester hours) at an institution of higher education

2.         Obtained an associate's (or higher) degree in Child Development

3.         Two years experience working with children.  (May substitute education in Child Care field for experience.)

4.         Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

 

REPORTS TO:   Early Childhood Director of Programming

 

SUPERVISES:    Child Care Assistant

 

JOB GOAL:        To care for and teach children at the Learning Center and to communicate with parents, with other staff members and students.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1.      Plan, supervise, and implement, the program for children in accordance with policies, philosophy, and curriculum of the Business & Technology Complex.

2.      Gear the program to the needs of the individual child.

3.      Develop, arrange, and maintain teaching materials and equipment.

4.      Plan and implement a positive liaison with parents.

5.      Attend parent/teacher meetings.

6.      Be responsible for the order, arrangement, appearance, decor, and learning environment of the laboratory.

7.      Assume a share of housekeeping duties not performed by the custodian/housekeeper.

8.      Supervise any student placed in the laboratory/classroom.

9.      Work cooperatively with other staff.

10.    Report any significant problems, progress, or unusual behavior of children to the Child Care Teacher.

11.    Arrive promptly.

12.    Follow all policies of McComb School District as stated in Policies and Procedures Manual.

13.    Receive fringe benefits of McComb School District employees.

14.    Must love children and relate to them.

15.    Must be in good health and practice good cleanliness habits.

16.    Must be agile enough to perform his/her job as a teacher of small children.

17.    Must be able to share their knowledge, materials, and time with students.

18.    Must be a good model for students to observe.

19.    Perform such other duties as assigned by the Child Care Instructor.

 

NOTE:      Employment at the Learning Center requires close contact with very small children.  Constant bending, stooping, lifting, kneeling, sitting on the floor, simple exercise and walking is required.  Employees must be physically able to do these activities.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:       Salary and work year to be established by the Board of Trustees.

 

EVALUATION:       Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel.
